[Tour 1] [Tour 2] [Tour 3]

For simplicity, I have listed three tours in the surrounding area. Detailed information and valuable advice you will be given by a long time resident with over 25 years of island experience.

Tour 1

Bandama-CalderaCaldera de Bandama, 574 m above sea level, nearly one kilometer wide with a still existing small farm on its bottom.

Starting from the finca in the Barranco de las Goteras, there are two different paths up to Bandama:
  1. either directly on the crater back up to the crater rim around and down into the depths,
  2. or walking up the valley to the chapel on the right hand (500 m) and then up a winding path,
until you reach the beautifully situated, oldest golf course in Spain with an adjacent equitation area. Then you walk through an elegant residential area –with the mountains in your back and sea view in front, until you reach the zig-zag path down to the bottom of the caldera.

Tour 2

Las Palmas: Kolumbus-HausLas Palmas: largest city of the archipelago's with the third largest Atlantic port, modern, spacious, cosmopolitan. The old part of the city is divided into Veguela and Triana with a colonial flair.

In the morning
Vegueta: You drive through the residential suburb, Tafira on the motorway to Las Palmas, which leads between Vegueta and Triana to Avenida Maritima, the seaside promenade.
Vegueta is built in colonial style, with beautiful wooden balconies and galleries in the plant-covered, cool courtyards.
Visit the Canarian Museum with the mummies of the Guanches (natives), the Cathedral of Santa Ana, Columbus House (pictured above), the Museum of Modern Art, go to the Old Market and then visit one of the many inexpensive pubs to taste some "tapas".

Triana: Shopping and pedestrian area with restaurants, cafe terraces, the Teatro Perez Galdos, the University Library and the spacious, shady Plaza San Telmo, with a flea market on sundays.
Afternoon
A walk on Las Canteras beach, (pedestrian precinct) or a refreshing dive into the sea. On the terrace of a beach cafe having a "cafe solo", enjoy watching pass by half the globe from Africa and India to South America and up to Scandinavia.

Tour 3

Melenara: Einheimischen-StrandMelenara: local beach, half a mile long, rocks behind. in the basin at low tide you can see small hermit crabs and all kinds of sea creature.

Very nice promenade with flowers and plants between lava rocks, clean public toilets and showers, benches, fixed umbrellas and chairs (no charge) and excellent, reasonably priced bars, pizzerias and fish restaurants with friendly service. By car, take direction to the beach drive down via the beach and short before take the road up to left to residential area at short distance to the beach. By the way, during the week you have Melenara virtually alone since the locals are at work.
And at night having a glass of “tinto” on the finca terrace, just enjoy the silence.
